  Making Sense of SCIENCE

Instructional Materials for teachers, coaches, administrators, and students!

Making Sense of SCIENCE (MSS) offers a variety of instructional materials that promote and support best practices in science teaching and learning. MSS also offers assessment tools, including student tasks designed to augment and accent existing curricula and content assessments that can measure pre- and post-intervention growth.
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING MATERIALS
Course Materials 
​All MSS courses are supported by comprehensive materials that provide the scaffolding and background information required to lead and participate in MSS courses, including Participant Books, Facilitator Guides, handouts, and charts.  
PLC Protocols
​
MSS offers two self-facilitated guides for groups of K–12 teachers to use in professional learning community (PLC) settings — Making Sense of Student Work, which guides teachers to examine and learn from their students’ work in any content area, and Classroom Innovations, which supports learning about the innovations of next generation science education. 
ASSESSMENT MATERIALS
Formative Assessment Task Banks
​These task banks are designed to augment existing curriculum with assessments that go beyond simple recall to promote reasoning. Each grade-band-specific task bank contains 20 or more black line masters on a range of concepts. 
Student & Teacher Content Tests
​
These assessments are intended help to gauge growth in knowledge about a specific science content area as a result of an intervention, such as professional learning, curriculum use, or mentoring. Tests are available in a range of topics for teachers and students.
